Professor Dr. Spencer Walse (USDA ARS) and his team are on the forefront of finding ways to control the tiny eggs from the invasive species Spotted Lanternfly, which has inflicted serious damage to crops in the United States. His team has set up a Contained Research Facility for their studies on lanternflies, a secure facility where strict quarantine protocols are in place to study invasive plant pests, pathogens, weeds and other threats.

His work has been featured by the UC Davis College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Michigan Farm News, and other media sources.
